Fundraising concert, 10 Sept 2011
To give you an idea of the evening (or a reminder if you were there), here are the acts and a little detail on what they did. Also below is a gallery of photos from the evening: click on any for a larger version.
- Hugh Andrews (sax) played a version of The Killers' Human.
- Esther Miles (piano) perfomed a fun piece called Rain Dance.
- The Cantcount 5 (aka The Harrisons) gave us four blues and rock numbers, using guitars, drums, piano and ukelele. That's Simon pictured on the previous page with the ukelele.
- Helen Allder (flute) played a lively dance, Tambourin. Daren Allder (guitar), joined by David Thomas and Dave Beak, sang songs by Elvis Costello, The Farmer's Boys, Prefab Sprout and Tom Morgan. Helen and Daren also shared a worship song by Tim Sherrington, who had kindly loaded PA equipment for the evening.
- Steve, Dave and Ricky Beak (guitars), joined by Bethan, played a range of material by John Mayer, Duke Ellington, Adele and Extreme.
- Bridget Dean, Sarah Brookes and Daphne Evans performed Pie Jesu, and a Handel song, Where'er You Walk. Daphne also played a Chopin Etude.
- Affi Adams and Lucy Tennant (voice and guitar), played material by Blink 182, Tenth Avenue North and others.
- Nicolas Gold (piano), wowed everyone with selected highlights from a Keith Jarrett improvised concert.
- Duncan Twigg (guitar, harmonica), played folk music from Britain and North America, and an intriguing version of a Wesley hymn as it might once have been played.
- Dorcas Ariyo-Francis, with Nicolas on piano, sang two impassioned Andrae Crouch gospel songs.
- Dave Doran, with Matt Lewis, Dave and Ricky Beak, rounded up the evening with two of Dave D's songs.
Daren shared a brief explanation of the church's PA system - how we have arrived with the system we have, and some of the particular issues that creates in the current setting - and was able with Matt Browne's help to demonstrate the difference between what we have (which is best suited for voice/speech) and a full-range system.
As well as being a great, entertaining evening, the concert was successful in fundraising terms too - raising over £650. Thank you all who contributed in all your various ways.
